Gender Equality through Peoples Initiative (GEPI) Project under Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS) has observed the International Rural Women Day and sports for women with active management of adolescent group members supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) at Khokhabari Government Primary School field on 15th October’2019. Rural Women and Girls Building Climate Resilience was the theme of the International Rural Women day. Md. Baduzzaman Prodhan, Chairman of Khokshabari Union Porishod was present as president at the program. Md. Nittanonto Chatarji, Freedom Fighter & Union social support committee member, Atanto Bissas, UP member of Khokshabari Union Porishod, Md. Kattik Chondro Roy, Head teacher of Moniruddin High School, Md. Gopal Chandro Roy, Principal of Gorgram School & College, Md Kholilur Rohoman, head teacher of Khokshabari Government primary school, Farjana Shirin, Assistant teacher of Moniruddin High School, Md. Abdul Kuddus sarker, Education Coordinator of USS, Md. Jomil, coordinator of Agriculture, M&E of USS, Jharna Rani Roy, PC of GEPI project and other staffs of USS were present at the Rally, discussion session and price giving ceremony. Near about 250 peoples (Women Group members, Adolescent group members, union social support committee members, students and adjacent villagers of the school) were actively participated with the rally and sports events. A colorful rally moved from Khokhabari Government Primary school field to vujaripara, Jummapara, Helabotpara, Khokshabari bazar and distance was almost two and a half Kilometer round the areas.
After rally, sports program was started. 07 types of sports were held like: Ball passing, 100 meter & 200 meter race, Plate balance run, broken earthenware, needle twist, Eye test and Lottery. Every sport played in 2 groups, 3 of them got prize in every sport through competition and total 48 winner received price. 160 women, 25 Girls and 15 boys participated in the sports. Participants and observers were much more enjoy of these Sports.
After completion of sports, discussion meeting and prize giving ceremony was held. In discussion meeting the rural women participants were express their opinion. “I knew first time regarding rural women day, we do work in house and field always and today I am very happy to join the sports’’ said Jinna Begum. “Sports for women, I saw fast time in my life and thanks to USS for this organizes” said Chhobita Rani. Md. Baduzzaman Prodhan, Chairman, Khokshabari Union Porishod gave closing speech. All the staffs of GEPI project of USS and sports implement committee performed actively in the event.
