USS started development journey 1997 at Sadar Upazila of Nilphamari District. Till 2003 the
period was to gather experience without much well defined strategy. In 2003 USS defined the
goal and objectives of the organization in specific term and undertakes PAR (Participatory
Action Research) as main approach to work with poor and marginalized people in the area. USS
envisions a democratic society free of poverty and inequality where all the people are enjoying
freedom, self-reliant, confident and contributing to the development of country and nation as a
citizen with democratic values.
USS has been working with Diakonia since May’2011 through “Promoting Gender Equality
through Local Knowlwdge & People’s Initiative (PGELKPI) project”. USS started works with
diakonia implementing piloting of PGELKPI project at Laxmichap and Palashbari union under
sader upazila of Nilphamari district during May’2011 to December’2011. The project is
continuing from that time contracting of different time and duration like 1 st January’2012 to 31 st
December’2014 & 1 st January’2015 to 31 st December’2015 after successful completion of
piloting phase. Now the project is running for five years under agreement duration of 1 st
January’2016 to 31 st December’2020. Khokshabari union of Nilphamari sader upazila has also
extended along with Laxmichap and palashbari union of running contract. Different activities
like debate competition, essay writing, girl’s foolball, girl’s bi-cycle race etc are running in 20
secondary education institutes of different union & Nilphamari pourosova.
Goal of the project: Ensured empowerment of deprived people through gender equality.
Objective of the project:
1. Taken initiative to reduce Gender discrimination and established human rights in the project
area
2. Financial capability increased for deprived people after end of the project.
3. Right holders of project area have perceived democratic culture, values and played responsible
role in family and society.
4. Accessibility increased of deprived people at local resource & services after end of the project.
5. Strengthened Staff capacity.

achieve gender equality and women empowerment where female will leave with dignity parallels
of male in Bangladesh.
Plan international Bangladesh is child centered development organization and they are trying to ensure the child rights and their development through child centered community development approach (CCCD). USS is also child & women centered development organization that why Plan International Bangladesh and USS mission & vision almost same. Considering the above circumstances USS had started the development journey with Plan international Bangladesh through implementing “Participatory Early Childhood Development and Community Empowerment (PECDCE) project at Koimary union under Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari from 2006 -2008 to ensure the child & girls right.
Later on Plan International Bangladesh changed the project design & location in December 2008. USS had implemented the project named was ‘’ Early Child development (ECD)”. Overall goal of the project was “Children of the community enjoy congenial environment at their ECD age (0-5 years) with dignity & honor and become better prepared of Early Childhood Development (ECD) and location was Koimary, Golna, Mirganj and Khutamara. The project duration was 2008 to 2011. USS started the new project named was ‘’ Participatory Community Capacity Enhancement (PCCE) Project in January 2012 and continued to June 2016. Need to say that 2011 USS stared the new project named was ‘’ Girls Power Project (GPP)’’ goal of project was reducing gender based violence against girls and young women. Location of working areas was Nilphamari Sador, Jaldhaka, Dimla and Domer Upazila and duration of the project July 2011 to june 2016. A another project has started name Child Rights and Protection (CRP) of July 2016 and it will be continued up to June 2020. Location of sponsorship areas were Koimary, Khutamara, Mirganj, Golna and Dormopal. Overall goal of the Project is “Children are better protected from all forms of violence including child marriage and child labor through inclusive and effective community based child protection mechanisms”.

Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS) started journey through work with Life-Skills & Education for
Adolescent Development (LEAD) project activities establishing Adolescent education centre with the
support of USC Canada-Bangladesh (USCC-B) at Laxmichap and Palashbari union undef Sader
upazila of Nilphamari district since January, 2008 and it continued up to last of April’2010. There were
45 education centres in working areas.
USS worked with 496 participating households through Adolescent Livelihoods Opportunity (ALO)
project with the support of USCC-B at Laxmichap union undef Sader upazila of Nilphamari district
since May, 2010 to April’2015.
USC-Canada redesigned and renamed as Seeds of Survival (SoS) project from learning of ALO
project. USS is implementing the SoS project at Laxmichap and Palashbari union of Nilphamari
sadar upazila from May, 2015 supported by USC-Canada to improve seeds and nutrition for
young women and men. Total right holder of the project is 3340 consisting 19 villages (male-668
and female-2672). Still the SoS project is continuing. We are proud to continuing partnership
with USC-Canada.

marginalized people so that they can unmask the apparent and underlying causes of
poverty and take initiatives to overcome the problems collectively.
Improper social attitude among a section of the society and officials towards
women and girls, weak enforcement of women-friendly laws and regulations, slow
but insufficient judicial protection, inadequate social protest and protection, poor
family environment, poor and inadequate intervention from human rights
defenders (HRDs) and weak voice of women human rights defenders (WHRDs)
are the major barriers in case of ensuring women’s and girls’ rights.
Following the above circumstances USS has started journey with the News
Network through a project name Supporting Human Rights Defenders Working for
Women’s and Girls’ Rights in Bangladesh’ to ensure women’s and girls’ rights . It
is a three-year project and activities started in January 2018. The project is
funded and technical support by the European Union (EU) and implemented by
the News Network collaboration with USS in eight districts along the Indo-Bangla
international border namely Satkhira, Jessore, Rajshahi, Niphamari,
Rangpur,Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram. USS is playing directly operational
role in Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram district under Rangpur division.
Objectives: The overall objective of the action is to provide support to Women
Human Rights Defenders and/or Human Rights Defenders (W/HRDs) working for
women’s and girls’ rights in Bangladesh, which is specifically address to;
 To recognise and promote the role of WHRDs in the protection and
promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms and to
protect them addressing the challenges, risks and threats that
they may face;
To support and protect WHRDs at risk due to their work for the
promotion and protection of the full enjoyment of women’s and
girls’ rights;
Targeted participants:
Media professionals of print, electronic and social medias including potential
young women journalists and rural media gatekeepers-editors, news editors and
executive editors, rural journalists and creative women journalists;
Rural civil society’s organizations’ leaders of both male & female and rural
religious leaders who are working to promote to ensure women’s and girls’ rights;
USS has strong background to facilitate peoples’ movement on ‘Rights’ issue as both of the leader and some senior staffs of the organization have long working experience in the respective area. Action Aid Bangladesh (AAB) working approach is same as USS. Considering the above circumstances USS started the development journey with Action Aid Bangladesh through Participatory Community Development And Monga mitigation (PCDAM) Project in 2007. This project ran from 15th August 2007 to 31st December 2007 as a pilot basis. AAB declared as Development Area # 35 (DA) under the thematic areas of Livelihood Security and Risk Reduction in first January 2008 and USS was conducted various types of survey through using PRA tools from that time to 31st December 2008. USS then implemented “Community Development and Monga Mitigation for the Poor through Upgrading Social Capital (CAMPUS)” project activities in remote border side Bhodaburi, Ketkibari, Gomnati and Bamunia Union of Domar Upazilla under Nilphamari district during 2009 to December 2017. Goal of the project was socio-economic development and controlling livelihood security through accessing public resources, empowerment of extreme poor and marginalized people where justice and democratic governance issues are being addressed in a comprehensive and integrated manner.
USS is implementing Action for Impact (A4I) project after successful completion of CAMPUS project. The A4I project is running at Nilphamari district from 1 January 2018 and it will be continued up to 31 December 2021 to ensure access to quality youth and gender responsive public services and youth participation at all levels of decision making.

Note that USS is working to achieve only Strategic Objectives 2 and 3 of A4I project.
USS is implementing LRP 52 activities at Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district from January'2019 and it will be continued up December'2029.

USS was started journey with Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) through implementing
Development Initiative to Promote Transforming of Youth (DIPTYO) project at Nilphamari
sader upazila in 2013. The project duration was 1 st November’2013 to last December’2016.
There were 400 right holders under 20 groups. 360 youth women and 40 youth male among
mention right holders.
Working areas: Laxmichap, Dubachuri, Darihara and Akashkuri village under Laxmichap
union and Bamandanga, Vabonkuri, Kholishapocha, Kishamotkanaikata, Araji Itakhola,
Ghandaskanaikata, Palashbari & Notkhana village under Palashbari union of Nilphamari sader
upazila of Nilphamari district.
Objectives of the project:
ï‚· To enhance the awareness on human rights of the youth (women and men).
ï‚· To develop skill for improving their socio economic status through income generating
activities of the youth.
ï‚· To develop the capacity to run development projects more effectively and efficiently.
USS is implementing Gender Equality through Peoples Initiative (GEPI) project at Khokshabari, Palashbari & Gorgram union under Nilphamari sader upazila of Nilphamari district from January’2019 and the project will be continued up to December’2021. There are 48 women group, 24 girls & boys mix group and 24 men group. Total right holder 2400 among them women, girls, boys and men are 1200, 360, 600 & 240 respectively.
Goal of the project: To eliminate violence against women and girls through gender equality.

Then Goat rearing project started for poverty reduction after end of Pre-Primary School activities. In the mean time Palashbari union under Nilphamari sader upazila of Nilphamari district has included with laxmichap union. The two project one is goat rearing and another is computer training running at laxmichap union for skill development and income generating parallely now.

Laxmichap union under Sader Upazila of Nilphamari district is a poverty prone area. Most of people are agriculture day labor. They pass in crisis in two periods like April-May and September-November in every year due to no scope to sell labor and the crisis period is called Monga. As a result peoples took loan from Mohajon of high interest and sold labor in advance. Above the circumstances USS constructed 1 No. Dhan Bank funded by Green Foundation at Laxmicpap union in 2006 to address Monga.
USS started 6 Community Pre-school where students were 150 funded by same donor at community in 2008 for physical, psychological, language and emotional development of children’s. Later on 5 community pre-school has started with 5 government primary school funded by Nargis Jahan Farida Begum Memorial Trust and Volunteer Association for Bangladesh (VAB) to ensure quality education.
USS constructed 4 no. Dhan Bank funded by Green Foundation at Bamandanga under Palashbari union of Nilphamari district in 2015 to address Monga. Now Dhan Banks and Community Pre-schools are running successfully.

Journey of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) was added with Udayankur Seba Sangstha
(USS) in 2009. USS constructed two dhan bank like 02 no. community dhan bank, Shohodeb
Borogacha, Laxmichap, Nilphamari and 03 no. community dhan bank, Bot Toly Kalibari,
Laxmichap, Nilphamari both technical and financial support by BFF in that year. It is a
exceptional bank where dhan bank member storage dhan during/after harvest of rice and receive
when need. Community dhan bank established for the purpose of mitigate Monga. There are four
community dhan among those 3 are Laxmichap union and 1 is Palashbari union under sader
upazila of Nilphamari district. Each community dhan bank has a committee and union base dhan
bank assiciation has also formed with each dhan bank selected members. Both committees
meeting are continuing as per plan. Community dhan bank are well functioning now each bank
has create huge fund.
Continuation of partnership of BFF and USS a five years project “Promoting Science Education
in Secondary School (PSE)” started in January’2012 and continued up to December’2016. The
project was completed in two phase. First phase duration was 1 st January’2012 to 31 st
December’2014 and 2 nd phase duration was 1 st January’2015 to 31 st December’2016. There were
29 Secondary School and a Dakhil Madresha in 12 union ( Laxmichap, Palashbari, Tupamari,
Ramnagor, Itakhola, Kundupukur, Ponchopukur, Chowra, Choraikhola, Kachukata, Shonaray,
Shongolshi) and nilphamari pouroshova of nilphamari district under the project. There were 413
boys and 1141 girls as right holder in 30 education institute.
Goal of PSE project was: Reduce of students afraid and grow interest to science department
and number of student increase day by day in secondary institution through create opportunity of
science culture and practices.
Objective of PSE project was:
• Popular of science education and number of science student’s increase in disadvantage
secondary
education institution
• Formation of science club conducted by students in their school and to do activate
• Create interest on science education among teacher, guardian as well as community peoples.
