AWD Farmers Day Observed

Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS) has arranged a field day on Alternative Wetting and Drying (AWD) to boro rice field supported by RDRS Bangladesh, North West Focal Area Network, IRRI and BRRI at Palashbari Masterpara under Palashbari union of Nilphamari district on 14th May’2018 for result sharing. More than 100 male and female farmers were present in the event. Md. Abul Kasem Azad DD of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Nilphamari was present as chief guest, Md. Mamunur Rashid senior coordinator agriculture & environment of RDRS Bangladesh, Reza Siddique BTV representative, Profullo Kumer Roy Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) of DAE and Md. Abdul Kuddus Sarker coordinator M&E of USS were present as special guest. Md. Momotaz Ali Pramanik chairman of palashbari union was also present as chairperson. Md. Jomil Agriculture Coordinator of USS was played overall coordination role to implement the event. The event completed through two steps. At first step Reza Siddique BTV representative took interview from Shallo tube well owner, farmer, above mention DD of DAE, UP chairmen, senior coordinator agriculture & environment of RDRS Bangladesh on their opinion and how they will play role to extension the technology to other areas. Secondly result sharing and discussion session was held. Md. Jomil Agriculture Coordinator of USS was given welcome species in favour of USS regarding overall implementation of the technology and how farmers & shallo owner both can be benefited financially and to keep soil healthy.  Md. Mamunur Rashid and Profullo Kumer Roy discussed the procedure of AWD technology. Shallo owner Bikash Roy has shared that this year his electricity bill reduced comparing to previous year for the reason of minimum water supply in rice field and that’s why he has received less Tk.200 per 30 decimal land from last year. Rampodo Roy is a farmer who said that tiller increased, disease reduced and yield increased in AWD boro rice field. Chief guest Abul Kashem Azad has detailed discuss regarding how to save water, benefits of farmers from AWD and he committed to extension of the technology through their DAE activities.
