Girls Football Tournament-2023 at Jaldhaka, Nilphamari

Udayankur Seba Sangstha (USS) has been implementing different activities under ‘Sponsorship Programme-Nilphamari’ at Jaldhaka upazila supported by Plan International Bangladesh to empower girls and young women to make as activist to change social harmful practices. As a part of programme activities USS has arranged a Girls football Tournament-2023 at Mirgonj Pathanpara High School ground at Jaldhaka supported by Plan International Bangladesh on 18 December ’2023 for popularize and mainstreaming of girl’s football at community areas.  The final match was between Rashidpur Girls School & College Team and Kharija Golna Dighirpar Girls High School Team. The whole girls football match has enjoyed huge number of viewers. It was a 50-minute match. Rashidpur Girls School & College team won by 05-04 goal defeating Kharija Golna Dighirpar Girls High School Team.

The event was chaired by Bhubon Chandra Ray, ED of USS and he has said ‘  are you know who are playing in the national girls football team, they have come up from the village; you too can move forward’. Golam Mostafa Manik , Chairman-Mirgonj Union Parishad; Mahfuja Akter Laki, Head Teacher-Pathanpara GPS; Jahangir Alam, Head Teacher-Pathanpara High School; Mahidul Islam, Principal –Rashidpur Girls School & College; Mojaffar Rahman, Head Teacher-Kharija Golna Dighirpar Girls High School; Khalikuzzaman Roni, Teacher-Mirganj College; Roichur Zaman Antor, President-Pathanpara Krira Chokro; Md. Jomil, Programme Coordinator-USS; Mir Mahmudul Hasan Astak, District Representative-Daily Prothom Alo; Youth Network, CBO representatives, girls, children and community people were present in the final tournament. More than 1350 peoples were present as viewers in the Girls football tournament.

Sristy Ray (Player-Rashidpur) says, I am pleased to come to the playground to meet so many Sponsored girls like me and get a chance to play, I want to be a best player in future. I have learned a lot here and thanked to USS and Plan International Bangladesh for taking the initiative.


The match made us realize that football is one of the most exciting games. There is nothing that girls cannot do. If we support them, no girl will stay at home, they will do both – study and play sports.
