Training on Gender for Program Participants

USS organized the 2 day long gender training at LRP-52, Training room, Phulbari, Kurigram from 25th & 26th September’2019 for the programme participants. Twenty five participants participated in the training proactively and most of them were women and young girls. The training was facilitated by Taslima Akther, Deputy Manager - Women Rights and Gender Equity priority of Action Aid Bangladesh and co facilitators were Saiada Islam Programme officer of Action Aid Bangladesh and Md. Kaykobad Hossain, Project Coordinator of USS. Main objectives of gender training are below to;

  • To build common understanding on gender and gender based violence.
  • To reduce the gender based violence in family to community level.

 Facilitator facilitated the session considering Social perception of behaviour of male and female. Facilitator used the tools of body mapping. Division of labour between male and female: This session was facilitated through using groups’ discussion methods. There are four groups were trying to find out the labour style in considering the local context. After finalizing the labour of work then they found that women are engaged in highest than male.  But there is no value of women labour due to consider the paternalistic society. Division of labour was driven by socialization process. After Completed the above discussion, participants finalized definition of gender like Social and cultural definition of gender which create the discrimination between male and female due to consider the social and political context. Gender based Violence: Facilitator facilitated the session on gender based violence through using methods of group discussion. There are four types of gender based violence which are; Sexual harassment / violence - Physical violence - Mental violence – Economical violence. Concept of Rights: Rights are legal, social, or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is, rights are the fundamental normative rules about what is allowed of people or owed to people, according to some legal system, social convention, or ethical theory. There are four characteristics of rights which are : Equitable Demand- Relation-  common/mutual interest – and social and legal recognition. Concept of women right and women empowerment : Women's rights are the fundamental human rights that were enshrined by the United Nations for every human being and these rights include the right to live free from violence, slavery, and discrimination; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn a fair and equal wage.

USS team thanks to AAB for extending their helping hand to facilitate the training session properly. If we provide the facilitation support to reflect circles than they will be able to reduce the gender based violence in Community level.
